A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a first responder, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
