Brian Eno Calls On Support to Send Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Festive Top Spot.
A campaign is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the Christmas number one spot. The project seeks to provide aid to Gaza's residents while also spotlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Chance for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a chance to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, festive releases are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.
“It has a deeply meaningful spot for many individuals,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than spend my life without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The single was laid down after a large-scale benefit event held in September. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the performance was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a selection of prominent voices from the music world. All participated in the September show, which managed to collect a significant sum for relief efforts.
Final Touches and Availability
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of talented individuals. The track blends a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.
The team running the project have stated that their goal is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These resources will be allocated to Palestinian causes through an non-profit partner.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a figure explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The context in the region was characterized as its profound destruction, with a huge proportion of property described as destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and showing that another narrative exists.”
The song is set to be released on Friday. Additionally, a video of the charity concert will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
