Per new allegations from a whistleblower, Ghislaine Maxwell, currently serving a two-decade sentence for trafficking offenses, is reportedly preparing a clemency request for consideration by the presidential administration.

Preferential Handling Claimed at Correctional Facility

House Democrats on the judicial oversight panel announced that a whistleblower provided evidence indicating the inmate is preparing the commutation application. They also stated she has been given preferential conditions at the federal prison camp in the Lone Star State.

Congressman Jamie Raskin, the ranking member on the House judiciary committee, stated in a news release that the facility's chief was assisting Maxwell with document preparation and submission to support her bid for clemency.

Specific details of the clemency request remain unclear, Raskin added.

Alleged Privileges and Special Accommodations

Raskin states that, per the insider, Maxwell has been given specially prepared food that are hand-delivered to her living area, and the supervisor has “personally arranged” private meetings for Maxwell and her guests.

These meetings reportedly involve a “special cordoned-off area” for visitors and a variety of food and drinks for her guests.

Those visiting Maxwell were also reportedly permitted to carry electronic devices, which Raskin described as an “unprecedented action” given the potential danger and chance of unmonitored communications.

Reportedly on one occasion, when phone lines went down for other prisoners, she was given specific instructions about instructing her contacts to contact and how staff would relay the call to her.

Supervisor Acting as Assistant

The whistleblower further reportedly told congressional members that when Maxwell wanted to review and edit documents “quickly”, she “essentially used” the official as her private aide.

The news release indicates that those writing to her would email documents directly to the supervisor, who would provide them to Maxwell, for her to examine and change and provide them back to the warden to digitize and send to the initial correspondent.

Extra Benefits Reported

Further perks allegedly granted to her include opportunities to interact with a service dog puppy – a perk not “ordinarily allowed” – as well as exclusive nighttime use to the facility's gym.

Maxwell’s attorney has not yet replied to a request for comment regarding the insider's allegations.

Through a spokesperson, the White House said that it “does not comment” on possible pardon appeals.

“Per the President's remarks, pardoning the convict is not something he has thought about,” the spokesperson noted.

Recent Background

Recently, reports surfaced that Maxwell told friends and family in electronic messages that she was “much happier” at the new prison than her previous prison.

This past summer, she was transferred from a secure facility in Florida's capital to the minimum-security camp in Texas, where most inmates are incarcerated for non-violent offenses and white-collar crimes.

The transfer, which authorities called as “unprecedented”, occurred just shortly following she was interviewed about the Jeffrey Epstein investigation by the deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, who also once acted as Donald Trump's personal lawyer.

This questioning came as the Trump administration was facing increasing scrutiny to release more documents related to the Epstein investigation and amid widespread conjecture around the President's own personal ties to the fallen billionaire and convicted sex offender, who was found dead in a New York jail in 2019 while facing trial on trafficking accusations.

Lawmaker Reactions

In the news release, Raskin also announced that he had sent a letter to the President, requesting explanations about the insider's claims, and called on the president to reject the clemency appeal.

“You should not grant any form of clemency to this convicted and unrepentant sex offender,” the representative stated in the document. “Your Administration should not be providing her with personal amenities, with puppies to play with, with federal law enforcement officials attending to her requests, or with any preferential handling or institutional privilege at all.”

The congressman asked that Blanche appear for a open legislative session to address the disclosures and also presented several inquiries to the President.

He inquired whether Trump had discussed a potential commutation for Maxwell with Blanche or others, whether he had instructed Blanche or anyone else to arrange Maxwell with the transfer or favorable and preferential treatment in prison, and whether she, her attorneys, relatives or representatives have made any promises to Trump or his legal team.

Raskin has asked for a response to the questions by the specified date.

Last month, the US supreme court declined to hear an appeal from Maxwell on her trafficking verdict.
