Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any impact is uncertain and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on the Islamic Republic carried out by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.

That preceding assault - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Additional Developments

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military said it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses engaged the projectiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," it added.

It said missile fragments landed in a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
