Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's understandable for questions to be asked about his future following another convincing defeat versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but if you are working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Discussions with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Problems and Squad Reaction
The manager lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, namely wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a period like this with outcomes so bad.”
Jones concluded, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is gone, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, things are bad and it must improve.”
