The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
