Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Goalkeeper Critics 'Not True Genuine Supporters'

Fulham Start Strong to Beat Tottenham and Raise Pressure on Frank

Spurs fans who jeered keeper Vicario were told afterwards "those individuals can't be true Spurs fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs let in two scores in the opening six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, marking their tenth top-flight home loss of the year.

However the primary topic of discussion was Fulham's next goal when Vicario gave away possession well beyond his area.

The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a high pass and took the ball near the touchline.

However, instead of kicking it out of play, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfielder Harry Wilson, who curled a shot into the net from the touchline measured at thirty-six point six metres.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario once more, some Spurs supporters booed him.

The team were booed off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and again at full-time.

One of those jeering sessions really irritated the manager.

"I heard some of our fans reportedly booed the situation and booed after, which, in my view is completely unjustifiable," the Danish manager commented regarding the supporters' response to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be real Spurs fans that do that. Alright booing after the game, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are behind one another moving ahead."

Tete had handed Fulham a early lead prior to Harry Wilson's strike – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an better second period performance.

Former Premier League goalkeeper Hart remarked that the second score was "totally preventable".

"I do understand the fans' frustration," Hart added. "I know the part Vicario is performing. He is a great team player, he's a true figure in the locker room but ultimately you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was deeply implicated in what ended up to be the winning goal."

'It's In the Game, I'm a Big Man'

Frank Defended His Goalkeeper Vicario Following the Game

Italian national team Vicario is in his third campaign with Spurs.

The 29-year-old said after the match that he had to accept the feedback.

"That score was a error of mine, I take responsibility for it," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just struck the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He stated receiving jeers "is part of football".

"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he added. "We cannot be influenced by the circumstances in the crowd. The fans have the right to do what they think.

"It is on us to remain more calm, to concentrate on our own performance. The team is missing in composure and poise to reverse outcomes. Today is a bad loss and it's hard to take."

'I Was Surprised Nobody Went Back to the Line'

In spite of Vicario's error, it was not an simple goal for Harry Wilson to score.

Actually it was the second longest-range top division goal of the campaign – after Adams' 43.3 yard goal for Bournemouth against the Black Cats, which incidentally also came on the same day.

Wilson stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an open net to target.

Ten seconds elapsed between Vicario exiting of his area and Wilson striking – which was five seconds after the kick.

"I felt like the keeper was out of the box for a long time," he said.

"I was surprised none of the back four went back to the goal line. When none of them defended the net, my eyes sparked a bit.

"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a bit of extra opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to make the correct contact and get it towards goal. I felt a positive feeling, the moment it left my boot, that it was on the right line."

'When You're in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'

Booing Whilst We Are Still in Play Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank

While Vicario's mistake dominated coverage, this was an overall poor day for Spurs to continue their home struggles.

The match was their 10th home loss of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club statistic matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to play before the close of the year.

Only one of those victories have occurred since Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are down 2-0 after the opening, there is a huge challenge to overcome," said the boss.

"When you're in a poor run, everything seems to go against you too – the opening was a redirected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost an additional match. Every game has a unique story, this game we were defeated in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can use to develop."

Tottenham have lost four consecutive home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their poorest rates on record in a single season (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Ex- Fulham midfielder Murphy stated that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He must take the criticism," Murphy remarked. "He has taken a prestigious job at a huge team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that comes with that.

"Their showings at their stadium have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
